Welcome to this sweet little corner of the internet.
I’m Rachel, and I started batter + bloom in March 2021 a few months after getting laid off amid cuts at the magazine I worked at. I studied journalism in college and worked as a writer for nearly a decade, but creating my own little world and making things from scratch is what I’ve always been drawn to.
In fact, after a couple short-lived detours into other creative endeavors, I started whipping up cupcakes in my teens and stuck with it over the next decade as I saw that a little butter and frosting never failed to make anyone’s day brighter. Also, I’m 100% addicted to sugar so it was a great excuse to eat cake batter all the time.
These days I bake cupcakes, minicakes, cookies, and other desserts in my licensed home kitchen in Somerville and sell my creations online and at pop-ups all over Boston. I take on custom bakery orders for celebrations big and small, too.
When I’m not baking you’ll find me roadtripping around New England, impulse buying things I don’t need at Target, or perusing one too many dog adoption sites.
